Mountain, dunes and contrasts
MERZOUGA – MERZOUGA
Kilometres: 119 km
Elevation gain: 852 m
Description: Loop stage to the west of Erg Chebbi. A fast start with a more twisty second part with gullies and secondary tracks as far as open plains where we start the return to the start.
Logistics: Loop stage taking us back to the first camp at the feet of the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
MERZOUGA – KSAR JDAID
Kilometres: 102 km
Elevation gain: 964 m
Description: An authentic desert stage, fast tracks with some sections that are sandier and others stonier.
Logistics: First sector of the marathon stage, so you need to take what you need to spend the night without any kind of assistance or comforts.
KSAR JDAID – FEZZOU
Kilometres: 125 km
Elevation gain: 1442 m
Description: The longest stage of this edition, with a variety of terrains and two big ascents that make up the Škoda Challenge 2023. Fast sections, dunes, technical ascents and off-route tracks make up this epic stage.
Logistics: The second sector of the marathon stage. At the end of this stage we reach an ‘ordinary’ camp, i.e. with your luggage and assistance services. If you decide not to keep what you have carried on your bike, the organisation will donate it to a local association.
FEZZOU – ERG CHEBBI
Kilometres: 116 km
Elevation gain: 958 m
Description: A stage across wide plains with long straights and very similar landscapes, with a second part of small gullies and crossing a big chott (salt lake) that takes us to the final part of the day.
Logistics: A stage that takes us back to the dunes. Remember to start with the mandatory 3 litres of water because it will be a long day.
Erg Chebbi – Erg Chebbi
Kilometres: 105 km
Elevation gain: 879 m
Description: A stage passing through dunes and a first navigation sector with some passages that are not easy to locate. The second part runs through a stony area with steep ascents and descents, leading to tracks in good condition that take us to the finish line.
Logistics: A loop stage in which you will spend two nights in the same haima (tent), so you do not need to prepare your luggage that day.
ERG CHEBBI – MAADID
Kilometres: 78 km
Elevation gain: 730 m
Description: First part along wide and fairly sandy tracks, after which the terrain changes and becomes very stony with constant ascents. The last part of the stage includes a short but technical descent, after which we ride along a large track that takes us to the finish line, to make you a Titan.
Logistics: You will sleep in a hotel after the last stage. Check the one allocated to you by the organisation. Remember to pack your bike for the return trip.
